PARAIBA BLUE TOURMALINE GEM STONE

Paraiba Blue tourmaline is a rare variety of tourmaline. It was discovered in the 1980’s by Heitor Dimas Barbosa in the Federal Brazilian State of Paraiba. Unfortunately mining of this rare gem is very scarce in the Paraiba region. It was later also discovered in Africa. The Brazilian and Pan-African mountain ranges formed 500 to 650 million years ago, are the birthplace of the Paraiba Tourmaline. Continental drift separated the two continents, however the copper-rich tourmaline is also found in Africa. It gets its spectacular color from copper and traces of manganese. Its major sources are Brazil & Mozambique.
